The CMA is housed in the interdisciplinary Centre for Coastal and Marine Research, covering aspects of coastal and marine research including quaternary environmental change, coastal processes, coastal management and habitat mapping.

Open-access research laboratories within the CCMR include sediment- and soil- analysis-, water chemistry-, benthic ecology and computing-labs.
The CMA runs a marine lab within the CCMR, equipped with state-of-the-art diving and geophysical survey suites and ancilliary hardware and software:

[1] dive suite > The dive-suite comprises sets of scuba and surface-demand kit including superlite 17bs and kmb 18 bandmasks, digital video and stills underwater photography equipment.

[2] geophysics suite > The marine geophysical survey suite comprises an edgetech 272-td side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profilers (edgetech sb-216 chirp and geoacoustics geopulse boomer), magnetometers (marine and terrestrial), echo-sounders, a PulseEKKO GPR and a series of marine and terrestrial dGPS systems. The marine geophysics lab is equipped with a series of high-spec PCs, UNIX stations and Mac platforms. Software
for the post-processing and integration of geophysical data includes IVS Fledermaus, ArcGIS, Surfer, Grapher and side-scan mosaicing.
