> Fees info

Course fees are calculated on a credit point basis depending on the number of modules you study. There is a price per credit point and this is multiplied by the number of credits for a particular module. You only pay for the modules you study in each academic year (September to August) and there is an instalment plan available.

The PgDip/MSc are linked courses. You must successfully complete the PgDip (120 credit points) before transferring to the MSc (a further 60 credit points), i.e. to get the full MSc you complete 180 credit points in total.

This online course in Environmental Management programme with/and GIS aims to provide an advanced education in environmental management, specialising in environmental impact assessment, biodiversity management, pollution monitoring and GIS techniques. The course aims to teach students the principles and practice of environmental management and the contribution of empirical and case study scientific research. The aim of this programme is to teach how a range of environmental management tools, such as impact assessment, site conservation planning, environmental management systems and ecological monitoring and GIS are applied in making knowledge-based decisions on managing the environment. TThe School of Environmental Sciences offers a postgraduate course in Geographic Information Systems which may be taken either on campus or by fully online distance learning, studying full-time or part-time.

The course is designed to provide a broad-based education in the principles and practice of GIS, leading to the award of Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert), Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) or Master of Science (MSc). PgDip modules cover issues such as the representation, acquisition, management and manipulation of spatial data, spatial analysis and modelling, remote sensing, GIS in the commercial environment, databases and programming. Concepts and techniques are illustrated using a variety of applications. Students can take one optional module from a choice of GIS work experience / work-based project, GIS for environmental management, GIS for health and health care, and customising GIS. Students gain extensive practical experience using a variety of software, including ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, SPSS and a number of GIS extensions and plug-ins.

The School of Environmental Sciences offer a wide range of fully online postgraduate modules which are available to students to study on an individual basis. If a module is successfully completed this can be ‘cashed in’ towards an academic award within five years. All short courses are validated at an appropriate academic level and number of credit points.
