Teaching Interests

My teaching interests focus on patterns and processes in the marine environment, with particular emphasis on anthropogenic impacts, related consequences for ecosystems and potential mitigation measures. Because the scientific method relies on evidence, and evidence generally comes from documenting and analysing carefully taken measurements, I attempt to introduce and reinforce concepts in numerical ecology at every opportunity.

My current module coordination and teaching duties include Marine Biology at second- and third-year levels (EMG301 and EGM501), as well as third-year (biological) Oceanography (EGM513). I also lead the Marine Science Field School (EGM302). Finally, I contribute to the first-year module on Marine Systems (EGM100).

Previous teaching experience includes leading modules on Data Handling and Biological Statistics, Coastal Ecology, Professional Communication for Biologists, Fisheries Assessment and Management, the Diversity of Life and Introductory Ecology, among others.
