Research Interests:

Biogeochemical cycling and sedimentation processes in lakes. Past PhD students have investigated topics such as; "Interactions of trace metals with phytoplankton and zooplankton in Lough Neagh, Nigel Donald", "Relationship between lake morphology and lake trophic state, Michelle Watson" and "The impact of Phytoplankton growth on the biogeochemical cycling of metals in lakes, Aine Gormley". Current projects include "The Predicted Impact of Climate Change on a Large Shallow Lake, Jan Coleman".

Reviewer for Aquatic Sciences, Archiv fur Hydyrobiologie, Biology and Environment: Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy, Journal of Environmental Management, Journal of Environmental Quality, Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, Journal of Plant and Soil Science and Science of the Total Environment. Member of the International Society of Limnology and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.

Teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level on modules such as Environmental Pollution, Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Data Analysis, Rivers and Lakes and Environmental Impact Studies. Supervise both Masters and undergraduate dissertations.
