Qualifications and Background
12/09/11 – present: Post-Doctoral Research Associate on the DOLMANT (Development of Lake Management Tools) project, University of Ulster. Research seeks to develop targeted ecological modeling tools for lake management. Project partners are AFBI, NIEA, EPA and Trinity College Dublin.
21/10/10 – 11/09/11: Outreach Officer with Access and Educational Partnerships, University of Ulster. This post was in conjunction with the University of Ulster Access Agreement and sought to promote successful research and activity in transition management into Higher Education.
16/11/09 – 20/10/10: Post-Doctoral Research Associate on the Flow-Pro project, University of Ulster. This involved the validation of flow-proportional passive sensors for phosphorus and nitrogen in Irish rivers. The project was funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, STRIVE Programme.
05/10/09 – 15/11/09: Research Associate in the Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP), University of Ulster. The post involved conducting research to inform pedagogic project development and contribute to initiatives that promoted engagement with scholarship and professional practice.
2006 – 2010: PhD in Freshwater Ecology, University of Ulster. Thesis entitled ’Distribution and dynamics of iron deposition in streams and its effect on aquatic ecology’.
13/02/06 – 11/08/06: STAR (Student Transition And Retention) Project Officer, University of Ulster.
2005: Master of Research (MRes), University of Ulster (pass with distinction). Research project entitled ‘Changes in environmental quality in south-eastern Lough Neagh following sewage treatment relocation’.
2000-2004: BSc (Hons) Environmental Science with Diploma in Industrial Studies (First), University of Ulster.
Experience
- 2009: Taught on the University of Ulster undergraduate second year Environmental Science field trip in the Algarve, Portugal.
- 2008 – 2009: E-tutor for distance learning PgDip/MSc in Environmental Management and PgDip/MSc in Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Monitoring, in the School of Environmental Science, University of Ulster.
- 2006 – 2010: Teaching assistant for undergraduate Environmental Science practical sessions.
