Reconstructing the last Newfoundland Ice Sheet through the last glacial cycle

Supervisors Dr. P. Dunlop and Dr. P. Wilson

Background

  • 2011-Present PhD Research Student
  • 2008-2011 BSc (Hons) Environmental Science (1st Class), University of Ulster
  • 2006–2008 - University of Ulster Access Diploma in Social and Life Sciences (Commendation)

Awards

  • 2010/2011 – Du Pont Award for best undergraduate dissertation – “The glacial history of Eastern Newfoundland and the Avalon Peninsula” Awarded by the School of Environmental Sciences, University of Ulster
  • 2009 – McCrea Leebody Science Award– Awarded by Faculty of Life and Health Sciences, University of Ulster
  • 2008 – Whyte Trophy for Achievement – University of Ulster Access Diploma Social and Life Sciences – Awarded by North West Regional College

Research Interests

  • The reconstruction of Quaternary Ice Sheets and their role in the nature and timing of major climatic events
  • The timing and significance of late-glacial land-ocean atmosphere interactions of the Newfoundland Ice sheet during the late Wisconsinan glaciation ( 28ka -10ka BP)
  • Application of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in relict glacial landform mapping
  • Spatial analysis of relict glacial landform record as a tool to reconstruct the evolution and configuration of former ice sheets

Professional Organisations

  • Associate Member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences
