Rory McNeary has been a research associate at the CMA since 2009 and is responsible for CMA’s freshwater archaeology remit for NIEA, Built Heritage and the development of terrestrial GIS capabilities at the centre. Rory is also part of a wider team at the centre which is developing research relating to climate change impacts on Northern Ireland’s cultural heritage.

Prior to taking up post at CMA Rory worked as a research assistant on the Heritage Council funded Medieval Rural Settlement Project at the Discovery Programme in Dublin. He has also previously worked for the Irish government’s Underwater Archaeological Unit (UAU) and has further experience in field and underwater archaeology in developer-led contract archaeology in Ireland.

Rory is currently carrying out a PhD on the archaeological applications of high-resolution remotely sensed laser, optical and acoustic data (supervisors Dr. R. Quinn, Dr. C. Breen and Dr. Wes Forsythe; external advisor, Mr. Anthony Corns, Discovery Programme).
