Health & Rehabilitation Sciences Research Institute (HRSRI)
Postgraduates
The recruitment, supervision, and training of postgraduate research students in the therapies has been an area of particular success for the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Research Institute. Since 2001, 39 students have successfully completed PhD studies within the area of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and there are 13 full-time and 6 part-time postgraduate students currently registered.
While in the past the majority of postgraduate students have been recruited from within the UK and Ireland (North and South), since 1996 a number of overseas postgraduate students have registered with Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (from the US, Canada, Jordan, Thailand, China and Portugal), reflecting the increasing international profile of work within the group.
Within the Institute, funding has been secured from a variety of sources including the European Social Fund, the Department of Employment and Learning (Northern Ireland) and from commercial partners through Co-operative Awards in Science and Technology (CAST) studentships and fully funded studentships from the Research and Development office of the Northern Ireland Health Service. Most recently, the Institute has been successful in securing a number of University-funded Vice Chancellor’s Research Studentships to further facilitate its activities in this area.
