The Institute of Nursing Research
Welcome to the Institute of Nursing Research
Welcome to the website of the Institute of Nursing Research, which is located within the School of Nursing at the University of Ulster where 10% of all UK PhD nursing students are based.
The Institute facilitates, co-ordinates and carries out high quality nursing research. In the most recent RAE process in 2008, nursing at the University of Ulster was ranked among the premier league of universities in the UK and in terms of 4* research we are within the top three universities.
World Leading
While all of our nursing research at the University of Ulster was deemed to be of international standard, 40% was classed as ‘world leading.’
Our vision is:
To be world-leading in research and development that enhances the knowledge, expertise and engaged scholarship of nursing, midwifery and public health research.
We aim to do this by:
- promoting high quality basic, strategic and applied research;
- strengthening the national and international research base in nursing and related disciplines;
- creating the infrastructure to capitalise on the creativity of all involved in the Institute;
Within the Institute, there is a vibrant culture of research and scholarship with over thirty researchers and ten professors based on the Jordanstown, Coleraine and Magee campuses of the University. The Institute has four main centres which focus on the following themes:
- Managing Chronic Illness
- Person-Centred Practice
- Maternal, Fetal and Infant Research
- Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
We welcome opportunities to educate high calibre research students, to work with visiting scholars and to expand our existing partnerships with health providers, commissioners and other centres of excellence and to provide consultancy services.
Thank you for visiting the Institute of Nursing Research website. Please feel free to call back and check our regular updates.
