| FIELD BOUNDARIES |
|
Field boundaries such as Hedges, Earth banks and Dry stone walls have considerable ecological value as a biodiversity resource and for connecting fragmented habitats in the countryside. They often have a high historical and cultural value and are generally thought to contribute greatly to the appearance of the landscape. All
field boundaries were mapped except those within curtilage (i.e. land
associated with urban areas and farm buildings or domestic buildings)
or those within a woodland canopy. Curtilage field boundaries abutting
farmland or seminatural vegetation were recorded. |
