Call for Abstracts

The Nightingale Foundation invites abstracts for the conference “Florence Nightingale Relevance in the 21st Century” being held and the University of Ulster at Magee campus, Londonderry, Northern Ireland on the 14 – 16 May 2010.
In recognition of the diverse areas of healthcare that Nightingale contributed to the Nightingale Foundation invite scientific and scholarly papers along the following themes,

  • Environmental Health & Control of infection
  • Education and Training
  • Management and ‘getting the job done’
  • Audit and statistics
  • Patient centred and holistic care
  • Public and political awareness
  • Military nursing and military healthcare reform

In the first instance all abstracts will be considered for presentation at the Plenary sessions of the Conference.

Some abstracts may be considered for poster presentation.

Each applicant will be contacted by email by end of February 2010 and advised of the committee decision.

Guidelines for submission:

Abstract content requirement for research papers  

  • Background & Rationale
  • Methods - appropriate identification of methods
  • Results-should occupy the body of the abstract and be presented in sufficient detail to justify the conclusions. Absolute values and statistics should be included where appropriate.
  • Conclusion-based upon the results presented

Abstract content requirement for scholarly papers

  • Background & Rationale
  • Literature /evidence base
  • Description of the project
  • Implications for practice
  • Conclusion & Recommendations -based upon the results presented

Abstract style

  • The abstract should be no more than one A4 page in Arial font size 12
  • Abstract title should be in CAPITALS and at the top of the abstract
  • Include author’s names and affiliations
  • Underline the name of the presenting author
  • Use single line spacing
  • Use standard abbreviations
  • Tables and figures are permitted but within the space allocated
