PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Dr Hassan was appointed to a Lectureship at the University of Ulster in September 2002. In January 2004 he was installed as Academic Editor of Sport in Society, an international, peer-reviewed journal published by Taylor and Francis Ltd. (an imprint of Routledge), a post he continues to hold.

Dr Hassan was promoted to Senior Lectureship in 2005 and shortly after, in January 2006, was presented with the Award of Distinguished Research Fellowship by the University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to research during his short time at Ulster.

In August 2008 Dr Hassan was invited to become an International Scholar with the International Football Institute, joining a number of other researchers throughout the world involved in football-related scholarship.

Less than a year later Dr Hassan was appointed as Series Editor (with Dr A Edwards) of ‘Foundations in Sport Management’, a new Routledge series examining this important and expanding academic field of study. A current member of  the Irish Football Association’s ‘Football for All’ Advisory panel,  Dr Hassan has a close working relationship with a host of governing bodies, including the FIA, WRC, the GAA and the IFA.

His research expertise concerns the relationship between sport and politics, sport governance and sport management and is currently involved in a range of research projects in these fields.
