THE MODULE

The conduct of the module is the responsibility of the Module co-ordinator. In particular all numbered learning outcomes stated in the approved module description shall be assessed.

Module handbooks/ handouts

Every module shall be accompanied by a module handbook that will be made available to students and all staff teaching on the module in the first week of teaching. The University recommends an outline content for module handbooks and this is given in Appendix 2. This provides a useful checklist for contents and should be followed where possible.

As far as assessment is concerned the module handbook shall contain the following minimum content:

An explicit statement of the learning outcomes for the module;
The assessment tasks and their link with the learning outcomes;
Dates on which assessments will be handed in and the dates by which feedback can be expected by students;
Arrangements for the return of coursework so that it can be reviewed by the external examiner;
A detailed description of any sessional examination. The following shall be specified:
the structure of the paper;
compulsory questions or compulsory sections;
the number of questions to be answered;
the choice of questions;
the weighting to be applied to different questions or sections;
and the duration of the examination;
Where appropriate students should be directed to past papers
The contribution of individual assessments to the overall module mark;
A policy statement on late submission, including the appropriate use of the EC1 form;
A reminder of the plagiarism policy;
Students should be advised to keep notes and drafts of submitted work as evidence of authenticity should this be called into question;
A policy statement on the penalties for exceeding a word limit.

Where general assessment criteria are available these should be included but where specific assignments have been designed to assess specific learning outcomes this information may need to be communicated when the assignment is set.
When determining the timing of module assignments due regard shall be paid to the student workload from the other concurrent modules and appropriate dates negotiated with the relevant course directors.
