QUALITY ASSURANCE AT PROGRAMME LEVEL
The purposes of the Faculty Quality Assurance processes are to monitor the adherence of practice to policy and to promote the sharing of good practice.
Evaluation and revalidation
| The evaluation and revalidation of programmes involve an examination of the assessment strategies to ensure that they are valid, fair and reliable, i.e. have the potential to measure the intended learning outcomes, do not disadvantage any student or student group and are repeatable. These processes therefore, focus on | |
| the fit between learning outcomes and assessment methods (validity) | |
| the use of a variety of assessment methods (validity and fairness) | |
| the moderation both of papers and scripts (reliability and fairness); and | |
| the maintenance of student anonymity for as long as practical in the assessment process (fairness). |
|
The assessment strategy for the programme should align with this Faculty assessment code of practice.
|
|
The annual review of the operation of programmes is conducted at the level of "subjects" (aggregated cognate programmes). During this process the overall outcomes of each programme is reviewed and compared to national benchmarks. A programme level review may also be required by professional bodies. |
|
|
A programme file will be maintained which will contain the following: |
|
| the programme handbook for the year; | |
| module evaluation reports; | |
| the minutes of staff student committee meetings; | |
| minutes of relevant course committee meetings; | |
| student performance in the programme; and | |
the external examiner’s report. |
|
| The purpose of the programme file is to provide information for annual subject monitoring and institutional review. It should provide a rolling three-year record | |
