Inter-professional Education

There is an increasing need to incorporate inter-professional education explicitly into health related courses. Inter-professional Education has been defined as ‘occasions when two or more professions learn from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of care’ and derives from perceived increases in efficiency in the DHSSPS which will arise from greater understanding of the work of other professions and decreases in the demarcation between the roles of health professionals.

In response to this need the Faculty established a working group to draw up a set of learning outcomes which could be incorporated into validation documents in parallel to those for entrepreneurship, and which would guide course-planning teams towards shared concepts of inter- professionalism. This working party had its final meeting on the 6th of September 2006 and the resulting policy document can be found here and a format for inclusion in your validation document here.
